A Garden Tour

I just love June -- the entire Earth comes to life! We are blessed with abundance here on Mother Earth and I wanted to share what that abundance looks like in my neck of the woods.

Some of the plants most valuable to me on our property are known to most as common weeds. Discarded as garden nuisances, these plants are power packed with medicinal properties we can all take advantage of.

Like these baby wild yarrows. Yarrow (also known as millefolium - one thousand leaves) is distinguished by its many feathery leaves. Yarrow can be used to lower fevers, encourage menstruation in wombmen, and increase over yin, or feminine, energy in the body.

Yarrow, an herbaceous perennial, is quite commonly used in landscaping. Here are the larger leaves from our landscaped yarrow plant. Can you see the resemblance between the mother and her wildlings?

Mugwort (artemisia vulgaris) is classified as an invasive species in New York (among several other states). It grows along highways, roadsides, and multiplies like wildfire. Once used traditionally as a traveller's herb, I like to use mugwort for traveling into Dream World. Using mugwort in a tea or a smoke blend before bed can help you connect with your dreams more consciously. Travel safely!

I'm not sure what this plant is, but I use its flowers in my smudge wands and they make each wand smell like magic.

I haven't used our plantain leaf but I will if I ever have a wound that needs tending to.

Roses make my heart sing!

Red Clover offers power-FULL support to the immune system and has been shown to be anti-carcinogenic. I make a tea from a few flower heads and leaves -- it's delicious!

So there you have it: some common plant friends I forage in the front yard. In our backyard we have our garden, ripe with growing squashes, herbs, and a host of other goodies.

I look outside of any window in my house and I see green.

What a wonderful world.
